Compulsive/Emotional Eating
Are You Experiencing Any of These Challenges?
Understanding Compulsive/Emotional Eating
Compulsive, emotional, mindless or stress related eating is a behavior where individuals consume food not out of physical hunger but as a response to uncomfortable emotions such as stress, sadness, or boredom. This type of eating can be triggered by a range of emotional experiences and often leads to feelings of guilt and shame, further perpetuating the cycle.
Why is it Important to Address Compulsive/Emotional Eating?
Emotional eating isn’t always a bad thing, however it can be a maladaptive coping mechanism that contributes to one’s physical and mental health and well being. Left unaddressed, it can lead to poor nutrition, as well as physical and psychological problems. By understanding and managing emotional eating, individuals can learn supportive ways to cope with emotions, leading to a more balanced nutrition, less stress and shame and better health.
